About the Role We're hiring a Data Engineer to build and run the pipelines that move, shape and serve our data on Azure. You'll own ETL end to end: getting data in from source systems, transforming it with SQL and code, and exposing it to the people and services that need it. You'll work closely with our data scientists to make sure the data they rely on is correct, accessible and trustworthy, and you'll help automate the checks that keep it that way. You pick the right tool for each job, whether that's Azure Data Factory or something else. What You'll DoDesign, build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines on Azure, using Azure Data Factory, Synapse pipelines, Databricks, Azure Functions or custom code as the job requires
Set up data ingestion jobs from a range of sources: databases, APIs, flat files, event streams and third-party SaaS tools, in both batch and near-real-time
Build and maintain data endpoints (APIs, views, shared datasets) so analysts, data scientists and applications can access data reliably
Transform and model data using SQL, Python/PySpark and other techniques, producing clean, well-documented tables ready for analysis
Partner with data scientists to automate data quality checks, validation rules and alerts so problems are caught before they reach models or reports
Manage data access and permissions, making sure the right people can get to the right data, and only that data
Monitor, troubleshoot and tune pipelines for reliability, performance and cost
Apply CI/CD and version control to data pipelines and infrastructure
Document pipelines, data sources and data definitions so others can understand and build on your work
What You'll Bring3+ years of experience as a data engineer or in a similar role building production data pipelines
Hands-on experience with the Azure data stack, including Azure Data Factory and at least one of Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks or Microsoft Fabric
Strong SQL skills: complex queries, performance tuning, and data modeling (star schemas, slowly changing dimensions)
Proficiency in Python (or a similar language) for data processing and automation
Experience ingesting data from varied sources, including REST APIs, relational databases and file-based feeds
Experience building or exposing data through endpoints such as REST APIs, Azure Functions or curated views
Working knowledge of Azure storage and databases: ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL Database, Blob Storage
Comfort with Git and CI/CD (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions)
Clear communication and the ability to work with data scientists and non-technical stakeholders to turn needs into reliable data
Nice to HaveExperience with data sanitation: cleansing, deduplication, standardization, and masking or anonymizing sensitive data (PII)
Experience with data governance, such as Microsoft Purview for cataloging, lineage and classification, or similar tools
Familiarity with data privacy and compliance requirements (GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2 or industry equivalents)
Experience with data quality frameworks like Great Expectations, dbt tests or Soda
Knowledge of Azure security and access controls: Entra ID (Azure AD), RBAC, Key Vault, managed identities, row-level security
Experience with streaming tools such as Azure Event Hubs, Stream Analytics or Kafka
Infrastructure as code using Terraform, Bicep or ARM templates
Experience supporting machine learning workflows, such as feature pipelines or Azure Machine Learning
Azure certification, e.g. Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate or Azure Data Engineer Associate
